The role of the Japan Art Academy is that of the premier Japanese institution that honors exceptionally-accomplished artists. In addition to engaging in activities that contribute to the development of the arts, the Japan Art Academy deliberates important matters regarding the arts, and provides counsel on these to Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan and the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs. Every year, the Japan Art Academy presents the Imperial Prize and the Japan Art Academy Prize to individuals outside of Academy members who have produced works of art deemed to be outstanding, and individuals who are recognized to have made distinguished contributions to the advancement of art.

The purpose of this course is for gaining knowledge of skills and materials on Japanese painting such as the usage of glue, gold leaf, mineral pigments, paper and silk. Students study different ways of expression using traditional methods of Japanese painting as well as developing their own free and unique perception. In the master program, students expand their original creative abilities. Instructors provide foreign students with more elaborated background concerning Japanese painting and hone their skills for artistic expression. Doctoral students aim to elevate their creativity to a higher level and to write a thesis. Researching the history of Japanese painting and developing each individual’s original presentation are required.

Musashino Art University is a university in Kodaira, western Tokyo, founded in 1962 and having roots going back to 1929. Teikoku Art School was founded in 1929; in 1948 it became Musashino Art School, and in 1962 it became Musashino Art University. It is known as one of the leading art universities in Japan. From its start, the university taught fine art and industrial design; it later added architecture, fashion, and other fields. MAU has exchange agreements with universities in other countries. It has a graduate school that awards master's degrees and doctorates.

The Art Information Center was built in 1981 as a symbol of our university with eight stories above ground and three basement levels. China Academy of Art is a fine arts college under the direct charge of the Ministry of Culture of China. It was founded in Hangzhou in 1928 by the government of the Republic of China and the renowned educator Cai Yuanpei. It was the first art university and first graduate school in Chinese history. At the time, China Academy of Art's goal was to promote fine arts education as a replacement for religion in the then war-torn China. The fine arts has been held as equal to a religion at the institution for almost eight decades. The academy has many renowned artists in its alumni and is considered one of the most prestigious art institutions in the country. It is colloquially called Guomei. It has tens of thousands applicants every year, with an attrition rate of well over 95%.

Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts (TAFA) was founded in 1906, which has over 100 years history of education. From the 1950s, it gradually became a multidisciplinary and multi-level fine arts institution. It is also one of the eight most influential fine arts institutions and an important fine art education and fine art research center in northern China. The students at the school is around 4,500, among them there are around 200 international students.

Chengdu Art Academy, originally founded in 1980, is the first nationwide professional art organization established by the government and being engaged in the painting and calligraphy creation, art theory research and academic communication. Chengdu is a famous historic and cultural city. As early as 938 A.D., Mengchang—the host of Later Shu established the first royal art academy of China in Chengdu, the palace style and the art school created by the artists with Chinese realistic painting birds and flowers on behalf of the father and son---Huangquan and Huang Jucai had profound influence on later generations. In the 1930s to 1940s, a major group of masters gathered in Chengdu to play a huge pushing function for the development of painting.
