Integrated into the Policy Department of Fine Arts in Senator for Culture is the Städtische Galerie Bremen since 1985, the Bremen Centre for the Development of current visual arts from Bremen and the region. On 600 sqm of exhibition space, a former fermentation and storage a brewery, will be presented: original issuances young artists, regionally and nationally, annual exhibition of Bremer Förderpreis of Fine Arts, retrospectives and retrospectives of artists who in the region... The urban collection includes works from the 20th as well as the 21st century. The focus of this collection is regional artist positions. The Galerie für Gegenwartskunst was founded in 1997, annually 4-6 exhibitions are realized which are conceived directly for the exhibition rooms, with only a few exceptions. The gallery for Contemporary Art, with its name, stands for a programmatic statement: it wants to offer young art a platform and a place for artists, who repeatedly define the concept of art within the context of contemporary discourse. The exhibition program includes, among other things, artists who articulate a research-based, often societal-critical approach with the spectrum of media imagery.
