Doris Dittrich

My work is an artistic archaeological research on contemporary urban space and life.

Core interests of my investigation are the formal manifestations of a civilization‘s political, spiritual/religious and artistic mentality and history, its language, its historical development of migration and influences of or interconnection with other (neighborly) cultures, in the structures and aesthetic of its cities and everyday culture.

Realizing it would take more than a lifetime to study even one culture in depth, the objective of my work is rather to create a personal and poetic archive of impressions of a society and its cities, the upfront research forming the foundation of the actual artistic process of collecting it, aiming at capturing the essence of a place.

Navigating the fine line between consciously searching and finding intuitively, my work is critical at its core yet imbued with optimism and philanthropy.
