Elisabeth Lecourt was born in Oloron Saint Marie, France in 1972 then moved to London to gain her MA at The Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins. She now exhibits in Europe, Asia and the USA.
“Les Robes Géographiques" started as a series of studies and sketches in 2002. As a cartographer depicts maps to understand the world we live in, Lecourt folds the maps to take the shapes of clothing, representing the wearer’s habitat and identity, forming an intimate connection with the wearer.
Lecourt's art is one of disclosure, using life events in works ranging from story telling, drawing, installation, painting, embroidered handkerchiefs and sculpture. Within "Les Robes Géographiques" Lecourt uses maps forming clothes and garmentsas a "rubbing" of the body and soul. It's a continuation of personal thoughts found throughout her work, which she creates using a range of materials to provoke and extract emotions.
