Federico Massa

Federico Massa aka iena cruz

Federico Massa (also known in the global street art world as  iena cruz) is a university-trained fine artist from Milan who has called Brooklyn his home for the past five years. Since his arrival in 2010 he has garnered the EB-1, the coveted U.S. Visa for Extraordinary Abilty, along with a number of gallery shows in New York City, Baltimore, and Miami, and commissions for wall murals in Mexico City, Ibiza, Manhattan, Barcelona, Milan and  Brooklyn. Since his teen years in 1990s Milan Massa forged a solid reputation as a rebel in the burgeoning street art movement, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan he developed a signature layered style of spray paint stencilling and fine calibrated brush work on a range of surfaces. This layering style, which incorporated wheat paste fragments with layers of paint, became the foundation for a series called “homages” which was exhibited in his first solo show at the Graphite Gallery in Brooklyn. The NYC street art world took note of a large scale Mexican themed mural on the facade of a private home in East Williamsburg, and then building facade commision in Bushwick, which led to an installation based exhibition at the Succulent Gallery in Greenpoint, . Animals are often featured and represent his strong beliefs in conservation.

Massa’s art, both the murals and canvas works, fuses his skills as a large-scale painter and set designer, and evinces his love of nature, bold colors and decorative motifs.  He plans to continue experimenting with these themes and techniques in evermore-complex artistic and commercial applications
