Matthias creates obstacles to make everything equally significant and insignificant. For him, it's better to create to raise questions rather than to answer them. The work reflects an understanding that nothing is ever finished. Currently using photography as guidance, he challenges the medium through manipulating its contents.
If he distorts, or destroys an idea, it is not always a planned or conscious act, but rather an experiment into what he finds ugly or meaningless. This means his current process of creating demands no explanation from himself as to why this is so. Revealing an awkwardness through editing an images provokes curiosity, making the viewer feel they must respond.
He is currently living in New York City.
