“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
The basic principle of my sculptural work is reduction, the compaction of a story to a state, a feeling or an idea - the abstraction from a concrete representation to an artificial view. Starting point for my artwork often is human or animal appearance.
Especially while working with stone, I use local or regional materials. This is very important for me, as well as the possibility to present the sculptures on public place or integrate my artwork into landscape.
The series of concrete-faces created in the last years was founded on the idea of blending two contrary systems - the use of poor materials like done in ars povera (used and broken concrete tubes) and crafty processing. As a result artwork is generated out of industrial mass products, personalized from aging, destroying and stone carving procedures.
