Taylor Marie Prendergast
Born in San Francisco and raised in Southern California, Taylor Marie Prendergast began painting at a young age, selling her first piece of art at just 5 years old. By 17, Taylor realized a goal that many artists wait a lifetime to achieve- a spot in the prestigious Galeria Jan in La Jolla, CA. Within the following years, Taylor would go on to complete studies at both the San Francisco Art Institute and California Art Institute as well as travel abroad to Croatia, studying under the tutelage of world-renowned artist Joze Ciuha.
Drawing early inspiration from artists such as Egon Schiele, Taylor’s fine-line drawings are precise (perhaps not on the whole) but lend enough power and strength to the finished piece, which can be edgy, disturbing and intellectually demanding. Currently inspired by the lewd, over sexualized imagery from the 70’s and 80’s, Ms. Prendergast is exploring a “Playboy” period. Not to be confused with the pomp and circumstance of the classic Playboy bunnies, her female figures are, as stated by Taylor, “unashamedly erotic. I feel like there is so much beauty in things that people overlook, like women with mustaches, but that is how I see sexuality – it is provocative and I like that.” Taylor’s enigmatic charm and unadulterated presence speak of an artist far beyond her 23 years of age. She has emerged as a viable force in the world of fine arts and looks forward to expanding her work globally. Taylor currently works and lives in San Diego, CA.
