Brigitte Yoshiko Pruchnow

Brigitte is a Japanese-German painter located in Munich, Germany. She has a background as filmmaker (studied at Munich Film Academy) and studied old Asian painting techniques. She works mostly with acrylic on canvas.

By the prolonged and intensive process of painting she wants to capture a short and fleeting moment and make light and shadow and their play with colours and forms more visible. Things that we aren't usually aware of like distortions or reflections, get more perceivable and make us look at things more accurately, thus developing a sense of how forms and their solid borders seep into each other.

Her experiences with Chinese ink painting and calligraphy as well as the traditional Japanese Nihonga with lots of layering of paint get translated into fluid forms that make the paintings oscillate between photorealism and dissolving abstract forms.
